Link-in-Bio Pages: 8 Best Practices for Creators and Small Businesses

Instagram, TikTok, X and other platforms often give you a single clickable link in your profile. A link-in-bio page solves this by collecting your important links on one lightweight page. But many such pages are cluttered and underperform. These eight practices help.

1. Decide the one action you want most

Before adding links, decide your top goal this month: newsletter signups, a product launch, a booking page. Put that link first and make it visually distinct. Everything else is secondary.

2. Keep the list short

Visitors arrive on a phone, usually with little patience. Five to seven links are plenty. If you have more, group them under clear headings or move the old ones off the page.

3. Use clear, specific labels

"Shop the autumn collection" beats "Click here" or "My website". A good label tells people what they will get before they tap, which reduces dropped visits and bounces.

4. Make it fast and mobile-first

Heavy images and many scripts slow the page on mobile data. Use a small profile photo, avoid auto-playing media, and test on a real phone over a mobile connection.

5. Track each link

If you only see total visits, you cannot tell what works. Use a separate short link for each button so you can compare clicks. Adding UTM tags to destination links lets your own analytics show what happens after the click; the basics are covered in UTM parameters explained.

6. Update it regularly

A page that still promotes an event from three months ago looks abandoned. Review it weekly or whenever you post about something new, and remove expired offers.

7. Build trust

Show who you are with a clear name, a short description and a real photo or logo. Link to official profiles so visitors can confirm they are in the right place. Avoid links that look like scams or shorteners that hide the destination.

8. Reuse the page offline

Put the page address on business cards, packaging and slides, ideally as a short, memorable link or a QR code. Our guide on static vs dynamic QR codes explains how.

A simple example

A baker could place a "Order for the weekend" button first, then a menu PDF, a Google Maps link, an Instagram highlight and a newsletter signup. Each button uses its own short link, so after a month the baker can see that ordering gets most clicks and the PDF almost none, and can then drop or redesign the weak link.
