You can write a brilliant post and still get very few clicks. The difference is usually in small details: the words around the link, how trustworthy it looks, and when you share it. These seven ideas are easy to apply today.
Why people click or do not
People decide in a second or two. They ask: is this for me, is it worth my time, and is it safe? Your job is to answer yes to all three quickly.
1. Lead with the benefit
"Free guide: 5 ways to get more shop visitors" works better than "New blog post". Tell people what they will gain and why now.
2. Use a clear call to action
Ask for one action only. "Tap to see the offer" beats a paragraph with three links. If you have many links, collect them on a bio link page and send people there.
3. Make the link look trustworthy
Long strings with random characters look suspicious, and many people have learned to avoid unknown short links. A custom short link with a readable name, or one on your own branded domain, shows people where they are going. Read more in branded vs generic short links.
4. Fix your link preview
When you paste a link into a chat or social post, a preview card with a title, description and image often appears. If it is missing or looks wrong, fewer people click. Check it with the social share preview tool and fix it with proper meta tags.
5. Share at the right time
Look at when your audience is active and test a few time slots. Your link analytics show clicks by day and hour, so you can learn your own best times instead of guessing.
6. Match the landing page to the promise
If a post promises a 20% discount and the page does not mention it, people leave. Make the page load quickly on a phone and show the promised thing straight away.
7. Test, measure and repeat
Create two short links for the same page, change one element such as the headline, and share them equally. Compare clicks and keep the winner.
Track every channel
Use a separate short link for each channel and tag it with UTM parameters. Then you will know where your best clicks come from and where to spend your time. If you run paid ads, learn the numbers in our ad metrics guide.
